Callaway X-20 Irons Review

The Callaway X-20 Irons are a great option for mid- to low-handicappers looking for clubs that are easy to hit and offer both distance management and shot-shaping ability.

A big innovation here is the Callaway Extreme Notch Weighting, a system that calibrates discretionary weight to create a more forgiving iron, with a larger sweet spot and greater stability. The center of gravity on the Callaway X-20 Irons is 6% larger than in previous models, for better launch angles and even more leeway on off-center hits.

The Callaway X-20 Irons look and feel like something the pros use. The thick top line makes it easy to set up and aim for the flag, and it has an exceptional feel for a set of irons in this class. Off-center hits don't come with shoulder-rattling vibration, but a golfer can still get a sense of the difference and make needed corrections.

The PGA Tour's Eduardo Romero used the Callaway X-20 Irons in winning the 2008 Dick's Sporting Goods Open, and for an MSRP of $1,120 they can be in your bag as well. They are available in right and left handed models in either graphite or steel shafts, and are definitely worth a try.
